Sister M. Ricarda (Amelia) Husava, OSF
Sister M. Ricarda, a member of the School Sisters of St. Francis of the United States Province and in her 61st year of profession, died on May 2, 2011 at Mount Assisi Convent Motherhouse in Bellevue PA at the age of 79. Sister Ricarda entered the community from St. Mark Parish McKees Rocks PA in 1949 and professed her first vows in 1950 at Mount Assisi Convent. She received a Bachelor of Science in Education from Carlow University and a Masters Degree in Library Science from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. Throughout her years of ministry Sister Ricarda served in various places in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Arizona and Rome as an elementary and secondary teacher, librarian, and director of religious education. Sister Ricarda attended the Pittsburgh Beauty Academy and was the beautician for the residents of Marian Hall Personal Care Home for four years. When her health began to fail Sister Ricarda retired to the community infirmary where she spent her final years in the ministry of prayer.
She always had a smile for anyone who spoke to her. In her younger days, Sister Ricarda was an avid bike rider. Daily she bicycled from Canonsburg to her ministry at Immaculate Conception High School.
Sister Ricarda was the daughter of the late Ignatius and Julia (Pollock) Husava. She was preceded in death by her brothers Steve, John and James. She is survived by her brothers Rudolph of Pittsburgh and Joseph of San Dimas CA; her sisters Agnes Bechtold and Ann Mehan of Pittsburgh.
The viewing will be from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Mount Assisi Convent on Tuesday, May 3. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m.in Queen of Angels Chapel, Mount Assisi Convent in Pittsburgh.
