United in Prayer for Compassion
On March 13, 2026 — the Friday morning of Catholic Sisters Week (March 8-14) — our Sisters were among the women religious from throughout Western Pennsylvania raised their voices in unity to advocate for compassion, dignity and respect for all, in particular to those who are immigrants.
We gathered outside the U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) field office on Pittsburgh’s Southside for a prayer vigil in memory of 44 people who have died in ICE custody in the past year. After the story of each person, we sang the response “Perdona a tu pueblo, Señor. Perdona a tu pueblo, perdonale, Señor.” In English, this means “Forgive your people, Lord. Forgive your people, forgive them, Lord.”
Sisters who could not attend could pray the Migration Mysteries of the Rosary in their homes. This collective prayer action reflects our continuing story of support for immigrants and their fair and just treatment. For, we all are created in the image of God. Please pray along with us that compassion, dignity and respect may be shown to all.
